Benchmark performance
Benchmarking compares a metric — such as energy per unit produced — between your facilities, or against a reference value, so you can see where improvement is possible.

Before you start#
- Record the metric values you want to compare. Recording metrics requires an editing role.
- Comparison groups require the Organization Manager or Sustainability Manager role; custom benchmarks require the Organization Manager role.
How to use it#
- Record Metric — enter a facility metric value for a period.
- New Comparison Group — group facilities that should be compared with each other.
- Choose what to Compare against:
- Organization average
- Best facility
- Industry median or industry top quartile (when reference data is available for your industry)
- Custom benchmark (Add Custom Benchmark)
- Target benchmark
Reading the results#
The Internal Facility Leaderboard only ranks facilities that measure the same metric, in the same unit, for the same period and with the same normalization — so comparisons are like-for-like.

|---|---|
| Leading | Best in the comparison |
| Above benchmark | Better than the reference |
| Below benchmark | Worse than the reference |
| Significantly below benchmark | Clearly worse — a priority to investigate |
| Not comparable | Different unit, period or normalization |
Top Improvement Opportunities estimate the gain if a facility reached the benchmark. These are theoretical — potential, not guaranteed savings.
Note If no industry reference data is available, ErgOps says so instead of showing a comparison.
