Short definitions of the terms used in ErgOps and these docs.

Organization and structure#

Organization — Your company's workspace in ErgOps. All data, members and results belong to one organization and are separated from every other organization.

Facility — A physical site such as a plant, warehouse or office. See Add your first facility.

Asset — Something inside a facility — a building, production line, machine or fleet — that uses resources or emits.

Meter — A device or data stream that measures consumption, such as an electricity meter. Meters can be mapped to assets.

Group — Several organizations viewed together as a portfolio. See Groups and holdings.

Data and calculation#

Activity data — A measured quantity of activity: kWh of electricity, m³ of gas, tonnes transported, money spent.

Emission factor — The emissions per unit of activity, for example kgCO₂e per kWh.

Factor version — The specific version and source of a factor. Results record the version used, so they stay traceable when factors are updated.

CO₂e — Carbon dioxide equivalent: greenhouse gases expressed as the amount of CO₂ with the same warming effect.

Scope 1 — Direct emissions from sources you own or control, such as burning natural gas.

Scope 2 — Indirect emissions from purchased electricity, heat or steam.

Scope 3 — Other indirect emissions in your value chain, such as purchased goods and transport.

Tonne-kilometre (tkm) — One tonne of cargo moved one kilometre. The activity unit for freight.

Calculation boundary — What a result includes. For fuel, tank-to-wheel covers combustion only; for products, cradle-to-gate covers everything up to leaving your gate.

Data quality / data confidence — How reliable the data behind a result is. See Review data quality.

Baseline — The reference period and value that progress is measured against.

Planning and verification#

Target — A measurable commitment with a baseline, a target value and a date.

Action — A task that improves results, with an owner, status and dates.

Expected impact — What an action is planned to achieve.

Observed impact — The measured before/after change following an action. Not proof of cause.

Verified impact — An observed impact that has been reviewed and frozen. See Verified Impact.

Assurance and reporting#

Framework readiness — How prepared you are against the controls ErgOps maps to a framework. Not certification.

Control — A recurring practice that supports readiness, checked automatically or through a workflow.

Evidence — Documents that show a control is working, reviewed before they count.

Snapshot — A frozen copy of results at a moment in time, used for published pages, reports and verified results.

ErgOps Embedded#

Customer account — One of your customers, inside your organization. Not a member of your organization.

Customer viewer — A person at your customer who can view that customer's portal.

External reference — Your own identifier for a customer or shipment, used to connect ErgOps with your systems.

Calculation — One emissions result produced from activity data and a governed factor.

Contract capacity — The number of customer-attributed calculations included in your agreement for a period. See Usage and contract capacity.
