Logistics methodology

Methodology overview#

The public logistics endpoint calculates tonne-km = cargo tonnes × distance kilometres, then multiplies it by an active governed kgCO2e/tkm factor. The calculation runs deterministically on governed methodology and factor data; it does not depend on external services at calculation time.

Factor provenance#

The response includes a safe factor reference, source and version. The internal record preserves the selected factor ID, validity period and calculation snapshot. Confidential factor datasets are not published through the API or documentation.

Calculation boundaries#

The factor determines the returned boundary. Current governed factors may expose tank_to_wheel (TTW). WTT or WTW must not be inferred: they are available only when the selected governed factor explicitly declares such a boundary.

Data quality#

Clients provide activity date, positive distance and cargo values, units and route context. ErgOps validates them, requires a governed factor and preserves provenance. A missing factor returns FACTOR_NOT_FOUND; the platform does not invent a fallback.
